Back to the recap

Civic briefings

One page each for four Detroit audiences, answering what the 27 builds mean for their work. Every build, number and link comes from the project records on this recap.

Builds are chosen by the rule printed on each card and ranked by award, then by whether a public demo and code exist, then by name. Nothing is ranked by opinion. Projects belong to their builders. The host, organizer and partners are named on the recap; none of them endorses a project.

City of Detroit, Chief Information Officer

Six open-source front doors to City and County services

Six open-source builds already read or fill a City or County process, from business permits to the HOPE property-tax exemption. The filing stays with the City; each tool is a front door.

6 of 27

builds are open-source and name a public program, dataset or city office in their own description

The ask

A pilot conversation

Pick one build and put its builder in a room with the office its description names. The question is where residents get stuck today, not whether to deploy a prototype.

Where patients and caregivers get stuck

13 of the 27 builds target health access, more than any other theme. They show where patients, caregivers and staff cannot complete the next step. None of them is a clinical tool.

13 of 27

builds target health access; 7 of them have a public demo and 12 have public code

The ask

A data partnership

Choose one prototype and name the dataset, consent step and human review it would need before anyone outside the room used it. The builders have said what they would test next.

The story in the data is health access

0 of 27 Detroit builds mention environment, water, air or climate. The Detroit track offered environment as an option; no submitted build took it. The story here is health access: 13 builds, 7 with a demo you can open.

The ask

A story, with builder contacts

Builders are credited by first name and last initial on each project page. The chapter will introduce you; it asks each builder before sharing a contact. Facts, quotes and share images are in the press kit.
